ARCHITECTURE

INSPIRED BY THE PAST

A love for architectural history and all things old drives a passion for reimagining spaces that respect their origins while improving their function to seamlessly meet the needs of each client.

INTERIORS

DESIGNING FOR THE PRESENT

Applying a design vision that balances aesthetic appeal with practicality, projects are thoughtfully designed to juxtapose historic references against the innovation of modern design.

CONSTRUCTION

DETAILED EXECUTION

Each design comes to life as a result of collaboration with homeowners, contractors and local artisans to create spaces that uniquely reflect each client, inspired by their interests, travel, and memories.

MEET KRISTYN

As a native Portlander, Kristyn is deeply rooted in her love for the city and its architectural history. A love for travel has taken her around the globe but there is an ever-present force that pulls her back to the Pacific Northwest.

It was a semester abroad in Florence that affirmed Kristyn’s love for architecture and interiors. After completing her BA in Seattle, Kristyn spent a gap year in London. A nanny by day and adventuring artist by night and weekend, as long as she had her camera in hand, she was content. Wandering in and out of museums, markets, cafes and cathedrals, Kristyn used film photography to understand and interpret the built environment.

With an expired visa, Kristyn headed home to begin her career in Portland’s robust design/build industry. She found a passion for older homes and historic preservation and fell in love with the excitement of each new client and their dreams for their homes.

After a decade at Portland design firms, Kristyn Bester Design was born from an earnest desire to be a clients’ most loyal advocate and support.

When Kristyn unplugs from designing your project, you’ll find her exploring with her husband and daughter, somewhere between her Overlook home and garden, the trails of Forest Park and the beaches of the Oregon Coast.
