Just like so many Portland bungalows, this home had a large, one-room attic with sloping ceilings that followed the roofline. The client wanted to expand their attic into a master suite with a spacious bathroom, ample storage and more light.

Kristyn designed a shed dormer addition that would house the new bathroom.  The bedroom previously had only one small window.  By introducing three skylights the bedroom area was transformed into a room that would be light-filled year-round. Three crawlspace areas were fully outfitted into separate his and hers closets and overflow storage.

By installing millwork, doors and hardware that match the rest of the house the attic feels like an original extension to the home. New oak floors throughout and a custom handrail are details that further elevate the space.
